Fall Riding

I have not posted anything for awhile, but this has been an awesome summer.  Radcliff was born and I have been doing a lot of riding.
I sold my stumpjumper a couple weeks ago and my new bike arrived just in time for fall riding.  Radcliff helped me piece it together.
To break it I went rode the Wasatch crest trail with Ryan.  We finally brought the camera on this ride and got some good shots.

Weekend at the Cabin and finally Powder

My friend Devin and I decided to build a jump over my car while our wives were hanging out in the cabin. Turned out to be really fun and we made a fun little edit. Check it out

These pictures have been taken over the past couple weeks with the new snow and at the cabin.  Good times!

Tron Shred

With this winter the three inches last Thursday afternoon felt like a lot of new snow.  Here is a fun little edit with the gopro2 from our afternoon at Brighton.  The snowboarder is Mark Seguin.  Check out his blog as well

The Past Few Weeks in Pictures

Before the snow hit I went mountain biking on Antelope Island.  That was the first time I have ever mountain biked in January, but it was a good time.  It is really pretty out there.   The trail was a little strange.  It was really rocky for awhile and it didn't really have any flow.

Shawn and I saw a few buffalos and made our own trail back to the car through a bunch of dead bushes.

A couple more pictures I took before the snow storms got here.

Finally it snowed!

That Feeling

This is the video that I have been working on all semester for my video production class at the U of U. It was shot mostly on a Canon 550D and a GoPro. It was filmed in Moab, Wasatch Mountains, Eagle Mountain, and the foothills of Draper UT. It was a really fun project. In the editing I added a lot of sound which I think gives it a more personal feel.  It was a lot of fun to film and edit.  The riders are myself, my brother in law Ryan, and one short clip of a friend named Kaleb.  I shot some in 1080p 720p, and 960p so it was a little confusing getting all to look good on the same sequence.  I think it turned out pretty good.  I hope you enjoy it!

Macro photography

This week in my photography class we have been talking about Macro photography.  These two pictures I took from about 20 feet away with a zoom lens.  You get a really cool blur effect in the background when zooming in from a longer distance it kind of stacks up the background.  This effect is also really cool if you shoot the background in focus too.

From the Moab Trip.

Moab is known to be one of the best places to mountain bike in the world.  It offers terrain that is unique from anything else.  I have been a big mountain biker for 2 years now and I have never made it down to Moab.  This was a trip in to explore what many call the best trail in Utah.  This trail is called the Porcupine Rim. We started even higher in the mountains at Hazard Country.  There are several shuttle companies in Moab that will drive you and your bike up to the top.

This is me riding through the trees toward the top of the trail.

The start of the trail was up in the mountains with beautiful fall leaves.  Hazard county trail is single track that is really fun.  It has some technical sections and a few gap jumps.  This trail lasts for a few miles and then the terrain begins to change.

As we continued descending the trail grows rockier in the lower altitude. It begins to feel more like the desert and red rock begins to be the most abundant obstacle on the trail.  There are some of the most technical sections that I have ever been on.  There is cliff exposure, and the most breathtaking scenery that over looks the green river.

Ryan going off of a drop about half way through the 20 plus mile downhill.

The actual Porcupine Rim lasts about 20 miles.  Toward the end of the ride fatigue begins to set in a little and the trail gets to expert level technicality.  The trail gets pretty close to cliffs that drop hundreds of feet.  This is also where some of the most spectacular scenery is.

Rocky section near the end of the trail.

After riding this trail I have to agree that there is nothing else like it. It was super fun, nerve racking at times, and an excellent adrenaline rush.  I would recommend this trail to anyone that has a passion for mountain biking.  I know I will be back at least once per year.
